First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to check out my blog!
The concept of “Living Local” is very dear to my heart. I was born and raised in the the San Francisco bay area. This was a wonderful place to grow up. There were so many amazing local shops, family owned restaurants and events. The surrounding communities embraced and supported this entrepreneurial spirit by shopping, dining and “living local”.
In the last 10 years the rents in the bay area have soared, pricing out the local business people that made the area unique. Whether it was an independant business whose rent was tripled, or simply having to increase their hourly wages to keep employees (whose own rent rent up exponentially), many of these businsses had to shut down. These business are what made the area I grew up in, “unique”.
In 2015 I was “priced out” of the the bay area. I was 38 years old, single and packed up my life and moved to Reno, NV. I had tears in my eyes as I drove over the summit, leaving behind the only place I ever called home. What I found when I got here was an amazing town in the Sierra foothills that had so many of the great qualities that had been stripped from the bay area. There are so many independently owned restaurants focusing on an unique, high quality and memorable dining experience. There are also so many stores, festivals and events that celebrate small businesses and local culture.
I am excited to be here and share my experiences about what makes this area unique. I also in my travels want to share the things that make every town unique. I feel it’s important to support local by Living Local, Here…wherever “here” may be.
